Welcome to Bonita Springs Lions Club

The meeting was called to order at 4:00 pm by Lion First Vice President Joe Gallagher. The invocation was given by Lion President Joe Jackson. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Lion Don Meek. The quorum was established with twelve (12) members present. Members present were Lions
Joe Jackson, Joe Gallagher, Colin Raynor, Tom Swanson, Al Greenwood, Margie Gillette, Darlene Faulconer, Marcia Van Tassell, Terry Moore, Alison Boyle, Don Meek, and Bob Leonard. There were no guests present.

Action Items:

  1. Minutes of September 12, 2022 meeting. Lion Don Meek moved to approve the minutes of the September 12, 2022 meeting. Lion Joe Jackson seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.
  2. Treasurer’s Report. The Treasurer’s Report for August was presented by Treasurer Darlene Faulconer. The Administrative account holds $34,008 while the Charities Account has $85,124. Net revenue was $3,000.  Lion Don Meek moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Lion Bob Leonard seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.
  3. Proposed new members. Joe Morales has applied for membership. He is sponsored by Lion Jerry Michota who is transferring his membership from New Jersey. Lion Bob Leonard moved to approve his application. Lion Don Meek seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. They will be inducted next week with Laura Carr who was previously approved for membership. 
  4. Lion Joe Gallagher proposed to pay local grants which need money after Hurricane Ian instead of waiting later in the year. Those include Bonita Assistance, $3,000; Harry Chapin Food Bank, $2,000; and Café of Life, $1,000.  Lion Joe Jackson moved to approve the grants.  Lion Al Greenwood seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.  Lion Joe Jackson moved to give $1,000 to the District 35-I disaster relief fund.  Lion Bob Leonard seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.
  5. Membership Data. Lion Joe Jackson said we need to collect data on members.
  6. Finance Committee. The Finance Committee needs to meet before the next board meeting. The meeting is set for Thursday from 4:00 to 5:00.
  7. Thrift Store. Lion Tom Swanson said that employees were not paid four days during Hurricane Ian. Lion Tom moved to pay them for those days. Lion Joe Jackson seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.
    1. Plans for November 12 Cabinet Meeting. Lion Margie Gillette proposed having a simple breakfast for $5.00 and no lunch. The plan was agreed to.
    2. Create a Membership Committee. Lion Joe Gallagher proposed having a Membership Committee instead of a Membership Chairman.
    3. Thrift Store Advisory Committee. Lion Joe Gallagher said the Thrift Store Advisory Committee will meet later this week.
    4. Service Committee. Lions Joe Gallagher and Colin Raynor said the Service Committee will solicit opportunities to help.

    Board Updates

    • Florida Lions Eye Clinic. Lion Don Meek reported that the Eye Clinic served 171 people last month.
    • Summer Programs. Lion Joe Gallagher said that SHINE will give the program in October and the Eye Clinic in November.
    • Lions Thrift Store. Lion Tom Swanson said that the Lions Thrift Store brought in $25,412 in September.
    • No report.
    • Bingo brought in $100 on October 7 with four volunteers.

    Information

    • Lion Al Greenwood said he will meet with Lion Tony Mansolillo to pay for the propane which is costing $521 per month.
