The meeting was called to order at 4:00 pm by Lion First Vice President Joe Gallagher . The invocation was given by Lion Joe Gallagher who included prayers for Lion President Joe Jackson. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Lion Don Meek. The quorum was established with eleven (11) members present. Members present were Lions Joe Gallagher, Colin Raynor, Tom Swanson, Margie Gillette, Fran Metcalf, Darlene Faulconer, Tom Porte, Marcia Van Tassell, Don Meek, Bob Leonard, and Ron Mancuso. There were no guests present. Lion Colin Raynor reported that Lion Joe Jackson was having surgery at that moment.
Action Items:
1. Minutes of July 11, 2022 meeting. Lion Don Meek moved to approve the minutes of the July 11, 2022 Board of Directors meeting. Lion Bob Leonard seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.
2. Treasurer’s Report. The Treasurer’s Report for July was presented by Treasurer Darlene Faulconer. The Administrative account holds $48,300 while the Charities Account has $100,100. Net revenue was $400. $74,103 went to the Store Improvement Fund from the Charities account. $30,448 from the Administrative account went into the Building fund reserve. Lion Don Meek moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Lion Bob Leonard seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.
3. Membership Issues. Laura Carson has applied for membership. She is sponsored by Lion Joe Jackson. Lion Don Meek moved to approve her membership. Lion Tom Porte seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. She will be inducted in September or October. Lion Jerry Michota will transfer in from New Jersey also at that time.
4. Property Lighting Improvement Update. Lion Bob Leonard reported that $800 to $1500 per pole would be spent. No motion was made.
5. Boy Scouts. The local Boy Scouts troop has asked us to be their chartering organization. Lion Don Meek moved to approve the request. Lion Tom Porte seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. Lion Joe Gallagher volunteered to be the Lions Club representative to the Boy Scouts.
6. Membership Meetings Resuming. Lion Joe Gallagher said that membership meetings will continue once a month. There will be a speaker beginning in October. Lion Don Meek said that Shine will be the speaker in October. The 60th Anniversary Party will be Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
7. Farmers Market Closure. Lion Colin Raynor said that the City of Bonita Springs has sold the lot where the Farmers Market was held, and it will be a paved parking lot. Lion Tom Porte suggested sending a letter to the city stating that we have a lease.
8. Use of Lions Center for Senior Lunch. Lion Tom Porte moved to allow the Senior Center to use our Lions Center from Monday to Thursday every week for luncheons subject to keeping the premises clean. Lion Fran Metcalf seconded the motion. Lion Don Meek said that would tie up our club. Lion Colin Raynor said it would be a big commitment for nothing. Lion Tom Porte amended the motion to after we receive a written proposal. Lion Don Meek seconded the amendment to not discuss the idea until we have a written proposal. Lion Bob Leonard moved to table the motion.
Board Updates:
• Florida Lions Eye Clinic. Lion Don Meek said he did not receive a report from Olivia Peña, so Lion Margie Gillette read the report that she sent to LCI. The Clinic had 42 volunteers in July who worked 225.5 volunteer hours. They served 182 people.
• Summer Programs. The food truck will start serving at 5:30 pm for the Membership Meeting on August 15, 2022.
• Lions Thrift Store. Lion Tom Swanson reported that the store took in $26,414 in July. Lion Tom Swanson and Carlo talked about raises. There was no need for a motion if it meets the budget.
• Facilities. Lion Bob Leonard said that the Lions Center has HVAC problems.
• Bingo. Lion Fran Metcalf said that Bingo is doing well and averaging 20 players per week.
