Welcome to Bonita Springs Lions Club
 Membership Meeting November 21, 2022
At 6:30 p.m. the meeting was called to order by Lion President Joe Jackson. The invocation was given by Lion Rosemary Putnam. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Lion Colin Raynor. The Lions Toast was led by Lion Bob Leonard. Lion Margie Gillette introduced guests. Twenty-six (26) people were in attendance.

Approval of minutes. Lion Don Meek moved to approve the minutes of the October 17, 2022 Membership Meeting. Lion Tom Porte seconded the motion which was unanimously approved.

Lion Awards.  Lion President Joe Jackson presented the following awards:

  • Life Member was presented to Lion Joe Gallagher.
  • Anchor Awards were given to Lions Joe Gallagher, Darlene Faulconer, and Rosemary Putnam.
  • Melvin Jones Progressive LCIF was awarded to Lion Darlene Faulconer.
  • Lion of the Year was presented to Lion Margie Gillette.

Club Updates.

  • Lion Darlene Faulconer said that $18,000 in grants were awarded in October.

The Administrative Account holds $39,601, and the Charities Account has $77,785.

  • Thrift Store. Lion Tom Swanson reported that the Thrift Store took in $29,942 during the month of October.
  • Bingo with the Lions. Lion Fran Metcalf said that Bingo earned $860 in October.

Introduction of New Member.  Membership Chairman Jerry Michota introduced Lion Bill Gregory who is a transfer from Indiana

Break for Dinner.

Lions Christmas Party.  Lion Joe Jackson announced that Wendy Renée will again perform at the Bonita Springs Lions Club Christmas Party which will be held on December 19, 2022 at 6:00 pm.  Lion Rosemary asked for help in setting up the Christmas tree on Saturday, November 26 at 10:00 am.

Guest Speakers. An informative presentation was made by three people from the Florida Lions Eye Clinic: Development Director Miranda Escobar explained the history of FLEC which was created by the Bonita Springs Lions Club.  Clinic Manager and BSLC Lion Member Olivia Peña said there are eight team members, and they need more volunteers.  Ophthalmic Technician Brian Matamoros said that the Clinic served over 2,000 patients last year of whom 75% are Hispanic.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:10.
